A journey back in time with the founders of the Portland Malcolm X People's Dental Clinic

Jon Moscow and some of the folks he worked with forty years ago in setting up dental and health clinics with the  Portland Panthers. These clinics were some of the precursors to our current government healthcare system, giving the model of free healthcare. It was great to hear a little bit of what life was like back then from 1969 to 1979.

We started at the original site of the Malcolm X People's Dental Clinic with Jon Moscow (left) and Kent Ford (right). These were two of the clinic founders.

Our second stop was with Sandra Ford. She helped recruit doctors to volunteer their time at the dental clinic.

And finally, Jon with Dr. Gerald Morrell, the first dentist at the clinic.

Maybe I will take up fashion...

...but probably not. I had a lot of fun taking these photos though. Needed some head shots for an application but we had some extra time so I shot these as well. I think it came out rather well, don't you?
