Not much new snow, but great skiing nonetheless!

Karyn started telemark skiing about three years ago, but she has been downhill skiing about as long as she could walk. Needless to say she is rather good at it! Anyhow, when she started telemark skiing she let me use her old GS (giant slalom) skis. For those who don’t know, GS skis are long and heavy! For a couple of years I did my best, with little success, to follow her down the mountain without looking like a fool. Last year I had enough foolishness and purchased my own telemark gear. Boy I am happy I did. For the first time ever I feel like I can ski down the mountain while in control and looking good. Yippee!

Now to the photos... Skiing on Mt Hood usually requires one to spend the day in windy and snowy conditions, but this January was one of the driest I can remember and made for some blue sky ski days. No wind to boot! The photos are proof.

Super steep place to stop for a photo! Never could have skied this on GS skis.

Trip to Seattle

Karyn and I made it up to Seattle last weekend to visit a friend and for a bit of a vacation. She has been busy with pharmacy school but she had a three day weekend so took off up North.

Our first stop was at the Olympic Sculpture Park. The place is a must see if you make it to the city.

Can you figure out which shadow is ours?

And the first Starbucks location. Can you figure out what is different with their logo?

The big splurge of the weekend was going to an NFL game. I figured nosebleeds would be cheap but I guess they have to pay those multi-million dollar players somehow!

Tikal

Just started editing photos from Karyn's and my honeymoon. As you can see I got involved with making panoramas and have consequently "wasted" an hour or more making this QTVR. Hope you like it!

Clear Creek Distillery

It sure does pay off to be a Reed alumnus some times! The Reed Alumni Association got together for a tour of the Reedie owned Clear Creek Distillery in NW Portland. We got a tour of their facilities and ended with a tasting of their very good concoctions! I even put myself on the waiting list for their whiskey which is claimed to be the best made in the united states. We will see about that (not that I know). Here are some photos and you can see more about the distillery here: http://clearcreekdistillery.com/

Their stills are made in Germany and are very fancy looking!

The aging room with all their fancy casks. On an interesting side note they have started to use Oregon oak casks.

And some of their pear in the bottle pear brandy. Yes that is a real pear inside there...they grow them in the bottles!

Uke Fest 2007 Movie

A large part of putting together this website has been choosing which photos to put on it. During this rather dreary process I came across this series of stills taken last summer at Uke Fest. Needless to say I couldn't help putting them together into a movie. Fun stuff!

Starting to create my new site!

This is my first post...What do you think of the new site?
