Geri Allen - Jazz Music Concert

GeriAllen_044

I find jazz music to be the best when live and a concert is second only to a jazz club when it comes to experiencing it. This last weekend I was asked to photograph Geri Allen and it was a treat indeed. She put on a fun show with great music! One of the highlights was her accompaniment, especially the tap dancer which you can see in the movie below. He was full of energy!

Some video of the amazing tap dancing. It is fun having HD video on my SLR.

It was interesting to watch her and the bassist interact with each other.

A Bright Room Called Day

I have been photographing for the Reed College Theatre Department for other three years. It is something I never get tired of. New student actors, new scripts, and new sets make every performance a great shoot. I get free range in front of the stage during the dress rehearsal to photograph to my hearts content. The images are as much for the school as they are for the students to use and show to family and friends.

These images are from A Bright Room Called Day by Tony Kushner and directed by Kathleen Worley.

I love photographing back stage as the actors prepare.

The lighting and costume made for a very dramatic scene.

A journey back in time with the founders of the Portland Malcolm X People's Dental Clinic

Jon Moscow and some of the folks he worked with forty years ago in setting up dental and health clinics with the  Portland Panthers. These clinics were some of the precursors to our current government healthcare system, giving the model of free healthcare. It was great to hear a little bit of what life was like back then from 1969 to 1979.

We started at the original site of the Malcolm X People's Dental Clinic with Jon Moscow (left) and Kent Ford (right). These were two of the clinic founders.

Our second stop was with Sandra Ford. She helped recruit doctors to volunteer their time at the dental clinic.

And finally, Jon with Dr. Gerald Morrell, the first dentist at the clinic.
